World Car-Free Day: 4 Ways to Promote the Use of Sustainable Alternatives

  • On September 22nd, World Car-Free Day is celebrated with the aim of promoting clean and sustainable transportation.

This date invites us to reflect on the environmental and mobility challenges we currently face. On World Car-Free Day, it is crucial to consider how we can change our transportation habits to contribute to a more sustainable world. Instead of relying solely on automobiles, there are various alternatives that can make a significant difference in reducing air pollution and traffic congestion.

Celepsa, a carbon-neutral energy marketing and generation company belonging to the UNACEM Group, presents four ways to promote the use of alternatives that allow us to protect the environment:

  • Promote the use of public transportation: Public transportation networks are an excellent option to reduce traffic and greenhouse gas emissions. Promoting the use of public transportation, improving its accessibility and quality of service, as well as establishing affordable fares, are key steps to encourage people to leave their cars at home.

  • Foster bicycle mobility: Bicycles are an ecological and cost-effective way to move around the city. Investing in safe infrastructure for cyclists, such as bike lanes and adequate parking, encourages people to choose this healthier mode of transportation.

  • Promote telecommuting: Modern technology allows us to work effectively from home. Encouraging telecommuting in companies reduces the need for daily car commutes and reduces the carbon footprint of businesses.

  • Create pedestrian zones: Designing pedestrian-friendly cities is essential. The creation of pedestrian zones, wide sidewalks, and green spaces makes walking attractive and safe. This not only reduces car dependency but also promotes a more active and healthy lifestyle.

Finally, Lorena Gaviño, Sustainability Sub-Manager at Celepsa, calls for public awareness: "Let us remember that every small change in our mobility habits can have a positive impact on the environment and our quality of life. Promoting these sustainable alternatives is an important step toward a cleaner and healthier future for everyone. At Celepsa, we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and transitioning to the use of sustainable and eco-friendly energy."
