Lima, January 2023. Environmental pollution and the impacts of climate change are increasingly intensifying in the country. For example, according to the National Meteorology and Hydrology Service of Peru, pollution in Metropolitan Lima has increased by 55% compared to previous years.

It is in this context that Celepsa has been implementing energy solutions to reduce the carbon footprint of its customers and generate savings in energy costs.

"We are proud to be able to install the largest energy storage system in a Free Client in Peru, hand in hand with one of the most recognized companies in the country and belonging to our own group, Unacem. This investment, which is valued at approximately one million dollars, allows us to continue with our commitment to sustainability in the country," said Eduardo Herrera, General Manager of Celepsa, a company belonging to the Unacem Group.

The battery system in question has a capacity of 1 MW of power and an autonomy of 2 hours to supply energy at strategic times for the cement company's operations. In addition, the BESS system will be installed at Unacem Peru's plant located in Atocongo, Villa María del Triunfo, during the first quarter of this year.

Unacem Peru's Safety, Environment and Sustainability Manager, Carlos Adrianzén, commented that "with Celepsa we share the goal of achieving carbon neutrality, for which we are developing various actions aligned with the Unacem Group's Carbon Roadmap. Unacem Peru's efforts include the supply of clean electricity in our operations - to date our use of clean electricity is 95%. We know first-hand the experience that Celepsa has within the electricity sector and we are definitely pleased to continue joining efforts to meet the sustainable goals we have as companies".

Herrera also commented that this solution not only focuses on reducing electricity costs, but also allows for responsible and efficient energy management by industries that intensively consume electricity.

In addition, BESS solutions allow reducing emissions in the national electricity system.

"We have a track record in sustainable energy generation that has made us the first Peruvian company in the sector to be carbon neutral, so we invite the business sector to continue joining efforts on this front, which is energy management," added Celepsa's General Manager.
