  • This recognition highlights leadership in implementing nature-based solutions to address the challenges of the water crisis and contribute to environmental sustainability.

Lima, October 25, 2024.- Celepsa, a company of the UNACEM Group, dedicated to the generation and commercialization of sustainable energy, has been awarded by Aquafondo in the first edition of the "Water-Responsible Companies" award, specifically in the Leadership in the Development of Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) in Water Management category. This recognition emphasizes the outstanding initiatives the company has implemented to protect and optimize water resources, particularly in Lima, which faces significant challenges due to its geographic location in a desert.

The award was given for the water security project in the upper basin of the Cañete River, an initiative that has had a significant impact on the conservation of key ecosystems such as wetlands and grasslands in the Nor Yauyos Cochas Landscape Reserve, through the Patronage of the same name, where Celepsa is a founding partner. Since 2015, Celepsa has invested over S/ 3.6 million in water security initiatives, positively impacting approximately 25,000 hectares, which have increased water availability and improved conditions for both local communities and ecosystems.

"Since our inception, we have taken a leading role in the fight against climate change, not only by generating sustainable energy that drives the energy transition but also through the development of various conservation and responsible water management initiatives. We are founding partners of the Nor Yauyos Cochas Landscape Reserve Patronage and have been investing in it for over a decade, working hand in hand with the surrounding communities," said Lorena Gaviño, Deputy Manager of Institutional Affairs and Sustainability at Celepsa.

One of the most valued aspects by the independent evaluating jury was the project's alignment with sustainability objectives in water management. The initiative has not only contributed to increasing the availability of this resource but has also fostered the active participation of key stakeholders in water governance. In this sense, collaboration with local communities, NGOs, and authorities has been essential to ensuring the long-term sustainability of the actions undertaken.

Another highlighted aspect was the project's capacity for innovation, introducing novel approaches to the restoration of hydrological ecosystems, ensuring its replicability in similar contexts. The project's sustainability, both in terms of resources and impact, is guaranteed through a continuous monitoring system, allowing the evaluation of the progress of the interventions and ensuring that the objectives are efficiently achieved.

Finally, the transparency and excellence in the management of the project's documentation and reporting of its progress were emphasized. This demonstrated a clear commitment to accountability and responsible management, ensuring that both the technical and administrative aspects of the project meet the highest standards.

This recognition reaffirms Celepsa's purpose of contributing to water security and environmental conservation while ensuring the sustainability of its clean energy generation operations. With its focus on nature-based solutions, it not only protects vital ecosystems but also promotes the development of renewable energies and a safe and reliable energy transition for the benefit of future generations.
